My families pretty picky when it comes to food. Although we LOVE food and LOVE to eat (if you can’t tell in our weight ;p lol jk) we can get picky with what we eat…hmm maybe that’s why mom cooks less now?! I dunno. But we also eat out a lot whether it be with friends, extended family or just with ourselves. We’ve been to quite a few restaurants and can pick out who‘s favorite restaurant is what and why. Since we were younger though my parents always made the effort to make sure these 2 things always took place in our home through out our childhood and even now:
1.) Family Prayer (as often as we can in the morning) but EVERY night before bed.
And
2.) Dinner as a family.[period]
Mom always had dinner ready….in fact she always had food ready, which is why, even to today some people that come through are sometimes disappointed when food isn’t ready because we always grew up with food always being there, hot and ready. I use to think because we always ate dinner at the table as a family that everybody did. I was wrong. Not too many people I knew did that , and was caught off guard when a few of my cousins and friends were in awe at the fact that my family sits down and eats dinner together, I on the other hand thought they were weird for not doing so. Lol. But now that I’m older I’m so grateful that my parents enforced that while raising us. It kept us close as a family and we were able to understand each other and everyone’s differences.
The reason I even bring up dinner as a family is because the past two weeks have been filled with lots of fun. My dad’s only sister [alive] came down to visit. She’s an amazing woman. Very wise, humble, and just one of those people that you always want around because they’re just that wonderful. She wanted to come to Utah for a little get away before going back to work. We’ve enjoyed our time with her so much and dreaded the time we’d have to give her back to her girls and grandma back in Hawaii. =/ For her last night here in Utah we went to dinner at the Roof Restaurant in the Joseph Smith building as a family. I haven’t been there since Junior Prom back in High School. It’s a beautiful restaurant; foods remarkably tasty, the live piano playing is beautiful, they’re hosts and servers are ON POINT, and the scenery from the top overlooking temple square and the Salt Lake City temple is breath taking. The setting was extraordinary and we all had such a great time there. I’m so glad that it wasn’t a hard task to get our family together for this special dinner for Aunty La. We missed Josh this night but it was great to just be with my family…the people I’m spending eternity with. It’s moments like this that keep me motivated for what I want in life and keep me determined to make right choices.
OMG Leta, my family does that too we sit @ the table & have dinner.. talk, laugh & get in trouble hahaha! (my friends think its weird too) Made me homesick reading this, btw I love THE ROOF:) i went for the first time this yr for my bday & I cnt wait to go back!!!
