Faith draws the poison from every grief, takes the sting from every loss, and quenches the fire of every pain, and only faith can do it.
One of the many things I'm grateful for as a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the knowledge I have of it. Being a member of the gospel makes death of loved ones bearable and knowing that I have been sealed to my family for time and all eternity is such a comforting feeling.
Last year about this time we were mourning the loss of my cousin Naki who passed away due to heart failure. {insert SAD/SHOCKED face}
He left behind his beautiful wife
Abby and 6 gorgeous girls all
under the age of 8. It was a devastating time yet very interesting. At his funeral Abby spoke of how the girls were aware of the event that was going on but didn't react to much. Why? She explained that although the girls are still very young for as long as she could remember Naki always held family home evenings and continued to teach the girls of the
Plan of Salvation, and how if we live righteously we'll return to our Father in Heaven again. She said that she would always ask Naki WHY he was so consistent with teaching the girls that when they're so young... they wouldn't even remember. At the funeral... Abby admitted she finally knew why. All her girls were sad yet they knew because "Daddy taught them" they'll be able to see him again one day.
It's been a year since then and they seem to be coming along very well for that circumstances they were left in when they lost Naki. Junior (Maile), Nakis younger brother, put together a benefit concert this past Friday in remembrance of his brother. A lot of local Polynesian artists performed that night in behalf of Naki, including Ray Leger, Mana Poly AllStar, Na Drua, and Junior. I got there at the end of Mana Poly All Stars performance because I wasn't able to get out of work until about 8pm, but despite all the technical difficulties all the bands did unbelievably great. You could feel the love and support from everyone there. I love that our Polynesian community can come together and support something like this. All proceeds went to Nakis girls. It was an amazing turn out and I'm glad I was able to be apart of the concert....but more glad that I didn't hit Ray with my fireknife. That would've been scary.. LOL
